| ◎ Phone System Set-up |
| There is a password to every extension with a communication level A or B. The original password is the last four digits of the extension number. |

How to change the password: Pick up the phone and press #7, the original password and the new password. When you hear “change confirmed,” the new password is in effect. |

How to lock the phone: Pick up the phone and press #5. When you hear “change confirmed,” the phone is locked. An outside phone connection requires the caller to press 0 and the password. A call to an extension doesn’t require the password. |

How to unlock the phone: Pick up the phone, and press #5 and the password. When you hear “change confirmed,” the phone is unlocked. The phone charge is based on Chunghwa Telecom’s rates and talk time. |

| ◎ Outside Telephone Connections for Students |
All extension phones on campus can be used for outside telephone connections, but the user needs to pay in advance.
Outside line applicants need to pay an NT$50 set-up fee and an advance payment with a unit price of NT$100. They will be given an outside line number and a password, which are good for making outside calls including domestic long distance calls.
Calls are charged at the telecom’s rates. An additional payment is required when the advance has run out before making an outside call.
The outside line number will expire after six months when the student quits university or graduates. The balance will not be returned. Students who extend or continue their studies may extend their numbers for free.
The outside line number is the caller’s personal extension, which allows access to him/her. |

How to set up the extension: Pick up an outside line extension, and press 1234, the outside line number and the password. Setting up the extension means that the outside line number is set on the phone unit. The caller can make an outside phone call while outsiders can dial the extension to reach the caller (the extension rings.) |

How to make an outside call: After the extension has been set-up, pick it up and press 6, the password and the called party’s number. |

How to unlock the extension: Pick up the phone, and press 1234, the outside line number and the password. After the setup has been deactivated, the number can be set at another phone unit. |

How to apply for an outside line number: Outside line applicants need to pay an NT$50 set-up fee and an advance payment with a unit price of NT$100. The outside line number is subject to expiration. When it expires, the balance will not be returned. Every NCTU student may apply an outside line number which will expire after six months when he/she graduates or quits university. Students who extend or continue their studies may extend their numbers for free. Any administrative division may apply for an outside line number with a duration of two years. A guest, with the recommendation from the university, may apply for an outside line number with a duration of one year. |

Password recovery: Please bring your ID for the process. The outside line password cannot be changed and needs to be kept properly. A password change requires an NT$50 set-up fee for a new number and password. |

Advance payment: The advance is paid by the hundred dollars. The payment is processed at the phone operator’s room from 8:30 am to 11:50 am and 13:30 pm to 15:50 pm on working days. The payment is effective within 24 hours. For related business, please call Ms. Zeng at ext.51701. |
